Nestled in the hills of Southeastern Ohio, Athens County offers an eclectic mix: young and old, rural and collegiate — all rooted by alluring traditions that offer more than meets the eye. Within the college town and under the rolling landscape lays a fluid tapestry of old traditions and new ideas, weaved together by the threads of community. From the moment dawn first shimmered over Athens’ hilltops until the last hues drained from its scenery Friday, Oct. 22, eager photographers studying at the Ohio University School of Visual Communication, in the Scripps College of Communication, reached deep below the surface of our region, revealing the people and places that make Athens distinct. The following pages visually document the unique essence that is Athens County.
